Pete Schones has a colorful history with the timeless enjoyment of cycling that dates back three generations, when his grandfather, Ferenc Barvik, opened the first professional bike shop in Denver in the mid 1960s.
Pete was first introduced to the cycling industry in 1984 when his parents continued Ferenc's legacy and opened a bike shop of their own. Pete attended the acclaimed Barnett Bicycle Institute to hone his repair and maintenance skills and eventually took a job with a national bicycle parts supplier, frequently visiting bike shops in his territory, where he got to know the owners and gained great insight into the bicycle shop business. These visits gave Pete the unique opportunity to see the key factors that made for a successful bicycle shop.
In 2001, Pete found the perfect location, and ACME Bicycles opened its doors in Longmont, Colorado. One step inside ACME Bicycles, and you are immediately struck by an intimate gallery of the family’s vintage photo collection -- Pete’s tribute to his decorated grandfather, Ferenc’s, many victories as a professional cyclist in his native country of Hungary.
Pete invites you to visit the store, where you will find a large selection of bicycle products; and if you choose, take a journey through a closely-held family history of cycling.

As Longmont's oldest bike shop we take pride in getting you the right bike. We love helping kids grow up with their new bikes and can fit Mom and Dad with bikes to keep up with them. We have the perfect ride for local trails, bike nights, and your favorite brewery tours. If you need a carbon racer that costs as much as some cars, we can certainly recommend some great local high-end bike shops. We carry bikes that are more about winning races around the block than winning podium spots.
